Bringing On-Line Learning to the Community

Bringing On-Line Learning to the Community

Free online learning is available in Castlecomer, Graiguenamanagh and Loughboy.
This is part of a nationwide programme where Local Authorities, The Library Council and FAS are offering people opportunities to up skill in their local library with the assistance of a facilitator.

The Programme is part-funded by the European Union and endorsed by the Irish Department of Education and Science and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. The programme delivers basic IT skills in a learning environment at a time, place and pace to suit the learners

Public Libraries are located in the heart of communities and have extensive opening hours so are well placed to provide this learning programme. In addition, libraries have excellent broadband infrastructure, many have wi-fi and are very capable of sustaining a virtual online learning community.
A facilitator will be available in the library at agreed times, to deliver workshops to beginners and support learners to progress through a suite of online courseware hosted on a dedicated website
http://faslibraries.learnonline.ie

The programme is open to all learners (over 18 years) and is free of charge.

The programme will assist people who have:-
▫ little or no IT skills (through workshops in the library delivered by a facilitator)
▫ some IT skills, for learners who wish to learn on line but may need some assistance (also through workshops)
▫ higher levels of IT skills for learners who can access online courseware remotely and email the facilitator for support if required. These users can access the courseware from home, library or anywhere there is good internet access.

Participants can also access additional online courses including: Intro to Project Management, Health & Safety, Effective Administrative Support Skills, Finance Fundamentals, Digital Media and many more.
Participating Libraries include -

Castlecomer on Wednesdays and Fridays 10am - 12pm

Graiguenamanagh on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10.30am - 12.30pm
