Science Week Show in Loughboy

Science Week is Ireland’s biggest annual promotion of science to the general public. This year it runs from 13th to 20th November. The aim of Science Week is to promote the relevance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in our everyday lives and to demonstrate just how important it is to the future development of Irish society and the economy. Throughout this Week, events are scheduled to take place in libraries, schools, college campuses, on-street, in nature reserves, parks and retail outlets across the country. Science Week is aimed at primary and secondary school students and anyone who may be interested in science! Science Week is coordinated by the Discover Science & Engineering (DSE) programme.

Loughboy will host Steve Allman and his show “Science tricks and stunts”. He will amaze his audience with a variety of stunts and tricks that can only be completed with an understanding of science. Using physics, engineering and chemistry he will cause maltesers to float, change the colour of liquids, burn money and sit on a chair of nails, all in the name of science. This event  takes place on 16th and has been prebooked by local secondary schools.

A crowd of almost 30 children came to the City Library, John’s Quay to hear Spooky Stories for Halloween. Local storyteller & actress Mary Cradock came on her broomstick and bewitched all the children in the dimly lit children’s room with three different tales of ghouls, ghosts and horror! Children came from all ends of the county and made a huge effort to dress up in scary costumes for the night. Mary flew to Graiguenamanagh and Thomastown libraries on her broom later in the week  and again bewitched local children there with her stories.
