Need a hassle –free romance? Curl up with a good book!

See the  valentine’s display of romance novels and take some tips from the poetry, cookery and travel books if you are trying to woo someone special!  And remember,  Book Lovers never go to bed…alone!

Flash Fiction:

Visit the library to see the first exhibition of Flash Fiction! Flash fiction is a complete piece of literature that is extremely brief. Read the interesting pieces created by local writers in this rather difficult genre!

We are now accepting submissions for the  March Flash Fiction exhibition. Please email your story (no more than 300 words!) to citylibrary@kilkennylibrary.ie  before 15th February. Contact the branch on 056 7794174 for further information.

Poets on Board

A new selection of poetry is now on display. We are now accepting submissions for our March poetry exhibition. Please Email poems to citylibrary@kilkennylibrary.ie before 15th February.

 Book club:

The title to be discussed at the second meeting is  Room by Emma Donoghue,  11.30am on Wednesday 29th February. All are welcome!

Exhibitions – a new venture at City Library

An exhibition rail has been installed in the library. If you are interested in exhibiting your paintings, drawings, photos etc., please contact Aisling Kelly on 056 7794175 or email aisling.kelly@kilkennylibrary.ie for further information. There is no charge for this service.

Loughboy

Exhibition by Anjala Chaware

The current exhibition is by Anjala Chaware and will continue until 17th February. Anjala is from India and came to Kilkenny in 2001 with her husband. She has a Masters Degree in Biochemistry. She had no formal training for the sketches in this exhibition-she does it only as a hobby. She invites visitors to her exhibition and looks forward to your valued opinions of her work.

Adult Learners.

Co Kilkenny VEC Adult Education Service will visit Loughboy Library on Tuesday Feb 21st from 2-5pm with an information stand, detailing the services it has available to people in the area and throughout the county.

Graiguenamanagh

Graiguenamanagh Historical Society has a talk on “Hitler’s Irishmen” by author and historian Terence O’Reilly on Friday 17th February at 8pm in the library. This talk tells the story of how a handful of Irishmen fought for Nazi Germany but only 2  ever wore the uniform of the notorious Waffen-SS.

Book Club: The members are reading Pride and Prejudice at the moment. The next meeting is Friday 10th February in the library.

The local Grow It Yourself group will meet in the library on Tuesday 21st February at 6.30pm.

Free exhibition space in libraries

Exhibition space is available in Loughboy, Graiguenamanagh, Castlecomer  and now, the City libraries for 2012.. This service & space is free for all. To book a date to display your work ring the library where you want to display your work. Individual and group exhibitions are welcome.

FAS Computer Classes 2012 in Libraries.

Free beginners computer classes, under the direction of Fas, are held in Kilkenny libraries. The participants get individual attention from a Fas tutor and each person learns at their own pace. This is not a group learning class. The waiting lists are now open for new participants. Please contact your nearest library to enrol. All are welcome. Participants do not have to be unemployed /retired etc. to avail of this service. Times of tuition are as follows:

 

Castlecomer:      Wed 10-12 noon

City:                   Tues 1.30-3.30pm

                               Thur 10-12pm

Graig:                 Tues 10-12 noon

                          Wed 2-4pm

Loughboy:           Mon 10-12 noon

                          Mon 12-2pm

                          Thurs 2-4pm
