Loughboy Book Club
Riveting Reads Book Club was formed on World Book Day 2005 by branch manager at the time, Helen Kenneally.
It has both male and female members and has varied in numbers over the years-there is now a very enthusiastic 10 regular attendees.
Members organize and facilitate the meetings independent of library staff and newcomers are always encouraged and welcome.
Staff are always available to give advice on book choices, to assist with acquiring multiple copies and to provide questions to get the discussions started.
For more details please contact Caitriona Kenneally, Loughboy Library 056/7794176 or email loughboy@kilkennylibrary.ie.
Meetings
Our Book Club meets in the library on the first Thursday of each month @ 10.30am-we take an annual break in August.
The meetings last approximately one hour but members often linger for a chat long after this time.
Library staff will keep you informed if you miss a meeting.
Books chosen can be collected at your nearest branch for added convenience.
Meetings are lively, interesting, fun, often loud and are hugely enjoyed by all.
There is ample opportunity to discuss titles apart from the chosen monthly read.
Our motto is-“one reader recommending to another is the best form of recommendation there is”.
The next meeting takes place on Thursday Nov. 4th at 10.30am in the library. The chosen book for this month is “On Canaan’s Side” by Sebastian Barry. The October book “Girl in Translation” by Jean Kwok 2010 was enjoyed by all members of the library book club and was rated 9 out of 10. It is set in the 1980s and tells the story of Kimberley Chang and her mother who move from Hong Kong to make a new home in New York. They are deep in debt and neither speaks a word of English. But through the power of books and learning they are saved. Readers thought “the book was brilliant”, “gives a great insight into hidden poverty in New York” and learned that “an indomitable spirit can win out”. Multiple copies of both books are available through the library-place your reservation without delay. |
